What is the difference in a Mini Gypsy Cob and a Mini Gypsy Horse?
A Mini Gypsy Cob is always a purebred Gypsy Cob only smaller in size. At present, the World over, the Mini Gypsy Cob is considered to be 13 Hands or smaller in height, and selectively bred from only Purebred Gypsy Cobs. Due to their size, they are also known as Gypsy Ponies. IGEA considers the true Mini Gypsy Cob and Gypsy Pony size Cobs, to be the only true Purebred Mini Gypsy Cobs. Please see more details and explanation of Foundation here.
A Mini Gypsy Horse, is not a Purebred Gypsy equine, and currently is considered a developing Breed. A small number of Breeders are selectively utilizing smaller Gypsy Cobs, Gypsy Ponies and Mini Gypsy Cobs, along with the out cross genetics of Mini and or Pony breeds to reduce size, in a planned, transparent effort to create a true Miniature size Mini Gypsy Horse. In respect to the original creators of the Purebred Foundation Gypsy Cobs and Mini Gypsy Cobs in Ireland, UK and British Isles, the word "Cob", has been removed and replaced with the word "Horse", to aid and designate the difference by Breed Name. More explanation of the Mini Gypsy Horse and the IGEA approved INTL Mini Gypsy Horse breeding program available at INTL Mini Gypsy Horse.
